Reuben was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico on June 22, 1931. He attended school in Carlsbad until he joined the United States Air Force when he was sixteen years old. He served our country faithfully for more than twenty-three years. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars before retiring from duty in Abilene during the early 1970’s. During his time in the military he met Alice Magallanez Acosta and they were married in El Paso, TX in December 1959. After his retirement from the service he helped open Fairway Oaks Country Club and then continued his career working as the purchasing agent for both Fairway Oaks and Abilene Country Clubs. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and enjoyed attending St Vincent Catholic Church on occasion. Reuben loved God and enjoyed reading his Bible. He also loved people and was always looking for a way to help them whether it was lending them a hand or giving them some money. He enjoyed watching golf and football, dancing, entertaining friends, but most of all spending time with his family.
Reuben was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Alice; two sons, Reuben Fernandez and Juan Acosta; and his grandson, Sgt. Marcus Fernandez.
He is survived by two sons, Rudy Fernandez and his wife Donna, and Robert Fernandez; Daughter-in-laws, Marie Acosta, Aurora Fernandez-Jumper, and Melinda Ericson; grandchildren, Candice Fernandez-Silva, Stephanie Fernandez-Mirelez, Eric Acosta, Lisa Acosta, Mike Fernandez, Michelle Miller, Shasta Nelson, Joseph Fernandez, Branddy Hopkins, Kari Wall, Christopher Fernandez, Angelina Fernandez; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

    John 14:1-4
Jesus said, "Don't be troubled. Trust in God, and trust in me. There are many rooms in my Father's house. I would not tell you this is it were not true. I am going there to prepare a place for you. After I do and prepare a place for you, I will come back. Then I will take you with me, so that you can be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going."

The Munoz Subia families send their condolences and prayers to the Fernandez families. May God give the strength and faith during this time of my Uncle Reuben Fernandez passing.
Uncle Reuben always had a smile and love for everybody. I will miss calling him every month up to his illness. I will cherish all the personal one - to - one conversations since I was 6 yrs old. We had a great time during his granddaughter’s wedding. I was with him for 6 great days during that period.
    God bless the Fernandez Families.
