Abran Rivera

Abran Rivera, 84, lifelong Abilene resident, went home to be with our Savior on Friday, February 8, 2008. His funeral service with Dr. Anthony Roach officiating will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 12th at the Minda Street Church of Christ, 701 Minda St. with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 PM on Monday at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South.

Abran was born in Abilene on December 12, 1923. He served his country during World War II as a member of 11th Army Air Borne Division. He was a paratrooper stationed in the Philippine Islands. He received the American Theater Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars, 1 Bronze Arrowhead and Philippine Liberation ribbon with 1 Bronze Star and 3 Overseas Service Bars.

Abran met and married the love of his life, Leonor Herrera. He worked 31 years in the Water Department for the City of Abilene, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Minda Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Leonor; his daughters, Jane Trumphour and husband Ray, and Annette Royal and husband Andre all of Abilene; grandsons, Chris Trumphour of McKinney, Johnathan Trumphour and wife Chelsea of Bedford, James Ballenger Jr. of Gainesville; granddaughters, Deanna Woodard and husband Michael of Keller, Francesca Royal of Denton, Autumn and Alexis Royal of Abilene; great grandchildren, Ashleigh Asa Woodard of Keller; and his brother, Chano Rivera and wife Martha.
