Adelaido M. Leal of Abilene passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at Mesa Springs nursing home.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday July 7, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 5410 Buffalo Gap Rd. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery 5750 Hwy 277 South following the mass. Visitation is on Friday July 6, 2018 between 6 PM to 8 PM in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel.
Adelaido was born in Goliad, Texas on May 6, 1934, to Jose Leal Sr and Victoria Morin Leal of Kenedy, Texas. He went to elementary, middle and high school in Kenedy, Texas. Shortly thereafter he volunteered in 1952 and joined the United States Air Force where he served during the Korean War. He served overseas and in the states. He was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force in 1956.
In 1957 he married America Gonzalez which he loved very deeply in Kenedy, Texas. They lived a few years in Kenedy, Texas before moving to Fort Worth, Texas in the late 50s.
Adelaido got a job at the United States Postal Service in Fort Worth, Texas shortly after moving there. He had a very successful career with the United States Postal Service. He served in several different jobs in the Postal Service and in 1981 was named acting Postmaster of Strawn, Texas. In the same year he was named Postmaster of Blessing, Texas. He continued he Postal career also being named the Postmaster of Alief, Texas and Eagle Lake, Texas. He loved being an employee of the United States Postal Service and garnered many Postal awards for his work ethic. Adelaido retired from the Postal Service in the late 80s
Adelaido and America had two sons, Mark and Joseph Leal. He was a very kind and loving husband and father. He also enjoyed and loved his grandchildren. Adelaido had many hobbies, he loved to help people by fixing their cars, he was a Notary Public, loved to fish and hunt. He also loved to go see the Texas Rangers at the old Arlington Stadium. And toward the end of his life had a great affinity for playing Bingo and playing Texas Lotto.
In 2003 Adelaido moved to Abilene, Texas near his youngest son Mark. He became an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He continued to practice as a Notary Public and help many people in this manner. Adelaido loved to spend time with his grandchildren as they grew up. He loved living a simple life, was not into materialistic objects and was happy. He still loved to fish and hunt up until his health began to fail him.
His wife America Leal preceded him in death in 1985. They were happily married for over 25 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his brother Joe Leal, his sisters Ameila Friesenhahn, Mayme Vela and Mary Atchison.
Adelaido is survived by his son Joseph Leal and his wife Robin of Houston, TX , his son Mark Leal and his wife Josephine of Abilene, TX, his sister Pauline Janssen of Portland, TX, his sister Elodia Guzman and her husband Ted Guzman of Bakersfield, CA, his grandchildren Nicholas Leal, Jacob Leal, Victoria Leal and Gabrielle Leal.
