Adonay Martinez

Adonay M Martinez, 83, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at a local nursing facility.

Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, November 15, 2007 at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Praise and Worship service which will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, TX. Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 16, 2007 at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Darden officiating; burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park, Garden of Ten Commandments.

Adonay was born on October 5, 1924 in Acuna, Mexico to Nicholas and Francisca Munoz Martinez. Adonays father, Nicholas fought with Pancho Villa, a Mexican Revolutionary general. When Adonay was a young man he was a cowboy who rode fences. He married Victoria Gonzales February 8, 1958 in Floydada, TX. He was a self-educated man who loved to sing, walk, travel, and he loved his family. Adonay was a migrant worker for many years; he worked for the Union Iron Workers for over 20 years, retiring in the 80s; he then worked as a janitor for the Abilene Independent School District. Adonay and Victoria were very active for many years in the Baptist church where they help found several new churches in the Abilene area; he served as a Sunday school teacher, director of education and president of the deacons.

He is survived by his wife, Victoria Martinez of Abilene; two sons, Richard and wife, Carmela Davila of Brownsville and Lorenzo Davila of Midland; two daughters, Anjelica Martinez Yanec of Reynosa, Mexico and Rachel Robinson of Buffalo Gap; two brothers, Jesus Martinez Munoz and Ernesto Martinez; a sister Naomi Reyes; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and 3 arriving soon; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Rosa Gonzalez and a daughter-in-law, Elva Rendon Davila.
