Albert Downum

Albert Arthur Downum was born June 28, 1937 on a small farm in Stidham, Oklahoma to Christopher Columbus Downum and Virgie Mae Turner. When he completed high school, he didn't know what he wanted to do, so he joined the Navy with one of his friends. After an honorable discharge, he attended college before beginning his life long career as a machinist, which lasted for over thirty-five years. His true love was driving a tour bus, which allowed him to visit with people. He retired from driving the tour bus at the age of seventy-five. Albert married Mary Jo Brown in November 1967. They remained married until her death in May 2012. Albert married Nan Lee in January 2020 and were together until his death.
Albert is survived by his wife Nan and his children Cindy Hough, Jeffrey and Shelly Downum, and Kim and Matt Helton, as well as grandchildren Jacob Downum, Breigh Hough, Yancey Downum, Carissa Downum, Ethan Hough, Christopher Helton, and Kyle Helton.
The viewing will be held at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South in Abilene, Texas on August 11, 2022 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene, Texas at 7457 Westlake Road on August 12, 2022 at 10:00 AM.
