Albert Ervin Hoppe, 82, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2012, at his home, in Abilene. Visitation for family and friends will be from 6:00 8:00 PM on Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 1, 2012, at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.
Albert was born in Gatesville, TX on February 26, 1930 to Sophie Hagerman and Oscar D. Hoppe. The family moved to Sagerton, TX in 1932, where Albert helped out on the family farm while in high school. He was in the Korean War from 1951 1953, where he was stationed in Germany in the Artillery Division. On June 12, 1955, in Haskell, he married the love of his life, Jeanette Turner. In 1957, they moved to Abilene and he joined the Abilene Police Department, where he remained until his retirement in 1993. He worked as a Patrol Officer, a Juvenile Officer, and later joined the Crime Prevention Unit. Albert was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, and enjoyed going to flea markets, gun trading, and hunting.
He is survived by wife, Jeanette Turner Hoppe daughter, Malinda K. Hoppe Chapman son, Bradley A. Hoppe grandchildren: Jessica Frazier, Shelby Chapman, Haley Hoppe, Sydney Hoppe great grandchildren: Rilee Frazier, and Addie Frazier.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Leonard Hoppe and Oscar A. Hoppe.
Pallbearers for the service will be Joe Vernon, Gary Coffman, Tom Smith, Steve Schmidt, Doug Beal, and A.L. Deatherage.
