Alfonso Martinez Jr.

Alfonso "Al" Ramos Martinez Jr., 88, of Abilene passed away Tuesday November 3, 2015 in Abilene.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, November 7 at 10 AM at First Baptist Church of Abilene. Interment will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. A prayer service followed by visitation will be held Friday from 6 to 8 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home.

Al was born on December 27, 1926 in Gouldbusk, TX to the late Alfonso Martinez Sr. and Maria Concepcion Ramos Martinez. He was a hard worker and drafted into the Army during WWII. He supported the war effort by sheering sheep for uniforms for the military. Al married Pauline Degadillo on April 19, 1948 in Morton, TX. Al and Pauline worked hard together in their many endeavors including ranching, restaurants and trucking. They provided generously for their children while living a very modest and frugal lifestyle. Al was president of the Morton chapter of L.U.L.A.C. Pauline passed away December 5, 2011. Following her passing Al became a member of First Baptist Church of Abilene. He was very generous, never met a stranger and would bring family, friends and people he met to church. Al was known as the First Baptist Church Ambassador.

Al is survived by his children, Sarah Garcia and husband Manny of Abilene, Llolanda Padilla and husband Ignacio of Abilene, Florencia Martinez and ex-husband Robert Espitia of Abilene, Selia Martinez Galvan of Oswego, NY., Alfonso Martinez Jr. III and wife Sandy of Abilene, Roxann Martinez of Abilene; 17 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; 7great great grandchildren; siblings, Benito Martinez of Hart, TX, Maria Morales of Plano, TX, Elias Martinez of Georgetown, TX; many dear nieces; nephews; cousins; and dear friends.

The family would like to thank Hendrick Medical Center and Hendrick Hospice for the wonderful and thoughtful care for our father during this difficult time.
