Alice Jimenez, lovingly known as Memo, 86, of Abilene, Texas, left us unexpectedly Friday May 8, 2009, at Hendrick Medical Center. Services will be held on Monday, May 11, 2009, at 10:00 am at the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park in the Garden of Ten Commandments. A rosary and prayer service will be held on Sunday, May 10, 2009, at 6:00 pm with a viewing at 5:00 pm. Pallbearers are grandsonsLarry Amador, Phillip Borrego, Paul Borrego, Arthur Jimenez, Chance Peables, Rod Hollowell and Randy Gomez.
Memo was born September 15, 1922 in Baird, Texas to the late Josephina Gonzalez Chia and Celestino Chia. She married Carlos Jimenez Sr., and spent over 60 years together before his death. She began work at the early age of 13 until she retired at the age of 80. Her employment included Lankfords and Hendrick Medical Center where she retired after 25 years and Lubys where she worked until her full retirement in 2002. She enjoyed her work and loved being around people. Ms. Jimenez a stature of less than 5 feet was one everyone looked up to. She enriched her family with her strong work ethic, her loyalty to family values and traditions which set a standard for us all.
She is survived by sisters Rosa Stokes, Lydia Hernandez and Cayatana Flores from Abilene, brother, Celestino Chia from California, sons Carlos and Richard Jimenez from Abilene, daughters Helen Jimenez, Ora Velasquez, and Jinger Hollowell from Abilene, 25 grandkids, 31 great grandkids, 12 great great grandkids, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carlos, brother, Juan Chia, sisters Dora Stokes and Chencha Villarreal, sons Larry Jimenez and Arthur Jimenez, grandson Chase Jimenez and granddaughters Ana Marie Pallarez, Michele Lee Pallarez-Juarez, and Reyna Helene Amador.
