Alicia ("Alice") Gonzales Carrillo, 95, of Abilene, died on Sunday, October 7, 2018, in Arlington, Texas. She breathed her last breath peacefully and painlessly and passed into the arms of her Heavenly Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She moved to Arlington this year to be closer to family and was living in the home of her granddaughter, Alicia Soto Flores.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 11th at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 12th, at 10:00 am, also at Elmwood Funeral Home, to be followed by a brief graveside service at Elmwood Memorial Park. Pastor Jasper McClellan will officiate.
Alicia was born on June 23, 1923, in Abilene, Texas to Victoriano and Grabiela Gonzales. She was the youngest and last-surviving of 13 siblings. As a young woman, she worked with her mother and sisters at the Gonzales family restaurant serving railroad workers and military servicemen. Later, she worked as a maid/housekeeper for many years and then as homemaker. She married Bernardo Carrillo in 1956 and they shared their lives together for 53 years until he died in 2010. She and her husband Bernardo attended St. Vincent's Catholic Church.
Her first-born son, Manuel Soto, pre-deceased her in 2009. She is survived by her son, Victor G. Carrillo and wife Joy of Rockwall, Texas. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren: Alicia "Lise" Soto Flores and husband Joe, of Arlington, Texas; Michael Soto and wife Kristy, of Abilene; Michelle Soto Ramirez and husband Joe, of Abilene; Jessica Soto of Arlington; Robert Soto and wife Tessa of Arlington; Melissa Soto Kellum and husband Jamaal of Arlington; Matthew Soto of California; Laura Carrillo Taylor and husband Adam, of Kaufman, Texas; Christina Carrillo Hubacek and husband Jared, of Mesquite, Texas; and Grace Carrillo, of Rockwall.
A caring and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt (known affectionately as "Tia Lisa"), Alicia will be dearly missed but never forgotten by her family and friends.
