Althea Stanaland

October 19, 1919 — October 27, 2011

Althea Hyso Stanaland, 92, died Thursday, October 27, 2011. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 3rd in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South with interment following in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:30 AM the day of the service. Viewing will begin on Wednesday during regular business hours at Elmwood.

Althea was born in Dalhart, Texas on October 19, 1919 the daughter of Archie Roscoe Hyso and Alta Thea Berlier. After high school, she received both her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Education from Abilene Christian College. She taught in McCauley, Trent, Hermleigh, and Wylie before beginning her 28 year teaching career with AISD. She taught briefly Lincoln Middle School and the majority of her career was spent teaching 7th grade reading at Franklin Middle School. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the TwentyOne Book Review Club, the AARP, the Good Sam Club and she was a long time faithful member of the Wylie Church of Christ.

Survivors include her sons, Rodney Stanaland and wife Barbara of Ft. Worth, Rickey Stanaland and wife Sharon of Columbus, Ohio, Randey Stanaland and wife Beverly of Germany and Rockey Stanaland and wife Debbie of Abilene 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Her husband Samuel Leonard Stanaland, her parents, and a sister, Alberta Eubank preceded her in death.

Memorial donations are suggested to the American Heart Association.
