Alva Grace Potts Rose, 88, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2011 in Abilene. Visitation will be from 5:00 till 7:00 PM, Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Her funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Friday, October 7, 2011 at Southwest Park Baptist Church, 2901 S. 20th Street. Interment will follow the service at Mount Hope Cemetery in Anson.
Alva Grace was born July 21, 1923 in Stith, TX to Fletcher and Mae Jones. She attended Merkel High School and married Olin Potts shortly after graduation. They moved to Anson where she began working for the Jones County Tax Collectors office and continued her work until Olins passing in 1971. She married Ray Rose in 1974, and they moved to Abilene where she began working for Taylor County Tax Collector office until her retirement with 29 years of service in both Jones and Taylor County. After Rays passing in 1992 she continued to be active in Southwest Park Baptist Church where she was a member. She always enjoyed taking care of those around her and loved her family.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Weaver and husband Carl of Abilene one stepson, Larry Rose and wife Karen of Gustine one stepdaughter, Pat Joseph and husband Harry of Belton one grandson, Damon Wallace and wife Krissy of College Station three stepgrandchildren, Jeff Joseph and wife Stephanie, Keely Joseph, Gerry Joseph and wife Misti one sister, Fern Berry of Abilene one nephew Jerry Jones and wife Twyla of Hot Springs, AR.
She was preceded in death by two husbands her parents one brother, Truett Jones.
