Ann Shirley Christman, 77, returned to her heavenly home on September 9, 2015, after a valiant battle with a long illness. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.
Shirley was born to the late James Goodlow and Annie Lee Goodlow, a chemical engineer and a homemaker respectively, in Refugio, TX on November 2, 1937. She graduated from the Abilene Christian University in 1978 with a Bachelors of Art degree. She retired from Sears and Roebuck Co. in 2000.
Shirley was blessed with a large and loving family. She married her best friend and Air Force police officer, Nathanial Christman, on August 3, 1959 in Abilene, TX. Nathanial passed away in 1972. Shirley raised her three daughters with patience, discipline and humility.
Shirley was an artist at heart and loved all things bright and colorful. She was kind and soft-spoken, and always blessed others in need, no matter how big or small. She is dearly missed by her loved ones who celebrate that she is at peace with her creator.
Shirley is survived by her sister Norvel Smith and brother-in-law James H Smith, Sr; her daughters Vickie Marie Sykes and Son-in-law Craig Franklin, Michelle Mack, and Simone Bell and Son-in-law Gregory Bell; her grandchildren, Tyre Sykes, Candice Christman, Whitni Bell, Cymanthia Davenport and Aaron Mack; 9 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her sister Louise, brothers; Theodore and Charles A. Goodlow. Son-in-law Ronald Mack, and grandson Natosh Boyd.
Shirley's Home Going Celebration will be at Macedonia Baptist Church, 608 N 7th St, Abilene, TX 79601, at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, September 18, 2015. Shirley will be laid to rest at the Texas State Veteran's Cemetery at 3:00 p.m., following the services. Pastor Matthew M. Lubin Sr. will officiate the service.
