Aura Hernandez

Aura M. Aréas de Hernández, 92, of Abilene, TX passed away on January 26, 2017 at Abilene Regional Hospital in Abilene, TX. Born November 4, 1924 in León, Nicaragua, she is preceded in death by her parents, Timoteo Areas and Sofia Rueda of León, Nicaragua, and her daughter, Aura Maria Felker of Torrance, CA.

Aura was a very loving, devoted wife along with being an excellent mother to her 5 children she brought into this world with her husband of 65 years, Alfredo Hernández. She started teaching at the age of 13 in the remotely small town of El Sauce, Nicaragua; later graduating from teaching school. She dedicated the rest of her working life educating both young and adult students. She also joined her husband in ownership and operation of various businesses throughout the years. Aura loved cooking for the family; before her passing, she was still continuing to write down recipes from her favorite cooking shows.

She is survived by her husband Alfredo; daughters, Lourdes, Belkamaria, Lissette; and son, Mauricio; grandchildren, Brenda, Wendy, Stephanie, Alfredo, Allan, Mauricio and Patrick; great-grandchildren, Evalyn, Hailey, Dexter, Alexander, Lorelai, Hector, Aura, Madeline and Roxanne. As well as many nieces, nephews and godchildren; whom were all very near and dear to her.

Visitation for family and friends will be 6:00 PM, Tuesday, January 31, 2017 followed by a Prayer Service beginning at 7:00 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 1, 2017 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel.
