Avelina G. Jaques, 68 of Abilene, died Monday, April 14, 2008 at her home.
There will be a wake service with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15 at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy. 277 South; visitation will follow till 8:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 16 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 5410 Buffalo Gap Rd., Abilene with Father Ruben Covos officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park, Garden of Gospel.
Avelina was born on August 5, 1939 in Victoria, TX to Fred Fernando and Paz Menchaca Guevara. She married Monico Jaques, Jr. September 1956 in San Angelo and they moved to Abilene in 1973. She worked as a RN for many years. Avelina attended Holy Family Catholic Church and served as a volunteer at the church. She enjoyed going to the YMCA where she had many friends; she also enjoyed reading, dancing, traveling, quilting, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, and making sure Monico always had a honey do list to do.
Avelina is recognized by her family and friends as being a devoted and nurturing mother, and a faithful and loving wife. Avelina, known as AJ by her friends; knew her as a timeless caregiver, forever volunteering of her time and abundant resources. She is most remembered for her intellect and sense of humor, her creativity, her devout sense of doing the right thing in all areas of her life; and being a friend to all. Her spirituality knew no boundaries. She leaves only wonderful memories which her friends and family will forever cherish and she will forever be missed.
She is survived by her husband, Monico Jaques, Jr.; three daughters, Grace Rodriguez and husband Lee, Rosemarie McKelvey and husband Mark, and Gloria Jean Jaques; three sisters, Angelita Deleon, Beva Lozano, and Anita Aguirre; brothers in law and sisters in law, Jesse and Anita Jacques, Jerry and Elma Jaques, and Ernest and Alicia Jacques; a sister in law, Dora Jacques; five grandchildren, Monica Rodriguez, Nicole Rodriguez, Sarah Camacho, Jacque Camacho, and Eric McKelvey.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Max Guevara, Fred Guevara and Alex Guevara; sisters, Lydia Gomez and Maria Cardenas; brother in law, Manuel Jacques; sister in law and brother in law, Amelia and Jim Luna; sister in law and brother in law Aurora and Fred Garcia.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, 5410 Buffalo Gap Rd., Abilene, TX 79606.
