Barbara Jones

Barbara R. Jones, of Abilene, Tx, formerly of Ruidoso Downs, NM, and Sweetwater, Tx, passed away on June 13, 2023. A visitation will be held at Elmwood Funeral Home 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, Tx, on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at 10:00am. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00am with burial following at Elmwood Memorial Park.
She is preceded in death by husband Monty Jones; grandson, Scott Stockton; son in law, Bryan Allison; parents Clinton and Ollie Mae Gillis; brother William Gillis and wife Donna; sister Bernice and husband Jack Landrum; sister Carolyn and husband Bob Pyland.
Survivors include her son, Monte; daughters, Amy, Tracy, and Cristi; 3 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandson.
Barbara and Monty enjoyed their business, Sweetwater Frame and Gallery, where they made many good friends and memories. They also ventured into the art of creating clay pottery with their own flare, attending many shows in Texas and New Mexico. "Retirement" took them to Ruidoso Downs, traveling across New Mexico selling frame molding, continuing in their pottery, and even getting into the shared ownership of racehorses. She also managed the office at Champions Run Condos, where they lived.
Mom loved her mountains in New Mexico and all the miles of adventure she set out on. She was also very good at spoiling her much loved doggies, she adored them, each and everyone. She could do it all, from managing a business, to landscaping, to art, and was always busy, always creating.
A remarkable lady that we have the honor of calling Mom, she will be so deeply missed.
