Bennie J. Whitehead passed away, Tuesday March 27, 2018. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Friday March 30, 2018 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, Texas. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday March 31, 2018, at Oldham Lane Church of Christ, 5049 Oldham Lane, Abilene, Texas. Interment will follow the service in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Bennie was born March 31, 1934, to William and Gladys Whitehead in Bard, New Mexico. He married the love of his life, Frances Ann Delay, in 1952. In May of 2018, they would have celebrated 66 years of marriage. Bennie was a fan of the Wylie Bulldogs, ACU Wildcats basketball, and Artesia Bulldogs football, where he served as the teams Chaplin for several seasons. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family.
In early years, he worked in the oil & gas industry, then moved on and attended Sunset School of Preaching, in Lubbock, Texas. He was blessed to preach across several states, with his greatest joy, coming from an invitation to preach in Jerusalem, on his 40th birthday.
Bennie is preceded in death by his parents; his infant daughter, Terri Ann Whitehead; and three siblings.
He is survived by his wife, Frances; three children, Debbie Clifton and her husband Claud; Larry Whitehead and his wife Pam, and Christy Millikin; grandchildren, Mysti, Bren, Terah, Trey, Ryan, and Laine; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Dale Whitehead and Irvin Whitehead; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.
