Benny Clark Cates, 73, passed away on May 1, 2018 in Abilene. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 5, 2018 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Chris McCurley of Oldham Lane Church of Christ will officiate the service.
Benny was born in Lockney, TX to Fred Clark and Lula Mae Cates on September 23, 1944. He married Marilynn Quain Cates on June 21, 1964 in Plainview, TX at 11th Street Church of Christ. He worked as a farmer in Floyd County until he was in his 40's. He was a member of Oldham Lane Church of Christ. He looked forward to working out a Hendrick Pulmonary Rehab. The staff was wonderful and he made many friends.
Benny was preceded in death by his parents Fred Clark and Lula Mae Cates; and one sister, Rhe Northcutt.
He is survived by his wife, Marilynn Kathleen Cates; daughter, Betty Hatton; Sons, Steve Cates and wife Tracy, and James Ronald Cates; many beloved grandchildren, Stephanie and Levi Justice, Colten and Allie Sanders, Alec, Mikaela, Caleb and Kent Cates; and great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Addison Sanders.
The family of Benny would like to extend our sincere thanks to APD, AFD, MetroCare, Hendrick ER, Hendrick Pulmonary Rehab, and Oldham Land Church of Christ and the City of Abilene Sr. Citizen Center.
