Bernabi Mendoza Sr., 75, of Abilene went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 23, 2019, surrounded by his family.
He was born on December 17, 1943 in Abilene, Texas to Willie Mendoza Sr. and Eva Juarez.
On July 25, 1969 he married the love of his life, Esperanza Lopez. They were inseparable for over 50 years and held hands until the very end.
Bernabi worked for the Abilene Independent School District for 34 years and the City of Abilene for 27 years.
He is survived by his wife, Esperanza Mendoza, his children, Melissa Lopez, Sandra Mendoza, Elizabeth Gutierrez and Bernabi Mendoza Jr., 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; siblings, Albert Mendoza, Johnny Mendoza and Raymond Mendoza.
Bernabi is proceeded by his father Willie Mendoza Sr., mother Eva Mendoza, and brothers, Willie Mendoza Jr. and Alejandro Mendoza.
He was a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Bernabi had a huge impact on the lives of his grandchildren, as he selflessly helped raise Corina, Johnny, Jessica, Lucy, Desiree and Justin.
Bernabi dedicated many years of his life as a member of True Light Global Ministries and enjoyed football Fridays, an occasional fishing outing and spending time with his family. He will be remembered by his humorous personality, strong faith and unconditional love of his family.
To celebrate his life, services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on June 28, 2019 at True Light Global Ministries, 1164 Minter Lane, Abilene, Texas 79603. Interment will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Thursday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elmwood Funeral Home. Active pallbearers are Johnny Gutierrez Jr., Justin Mendoza, Simon Camacho, Jessica Gutierrez, Robert Rivera, Rene Saldaña and honorary pallbearer, Ezekiel Devora.
