Bernice Reed

Bernice Reed, 70, died Sunday, June 27, 2010 in Abilene. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 3, 2010 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park, Garden of Ten Commandments. Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday at Elmwood Funeral Home.

Bernice was born on May 22, 1940 in Beaumont, Texas and spent her childhood in Hearn coming to Abilene when she was 18 years old. She married Ernest Reed in 1959 and worked most of her life in housekeeping at several nursing homes and hotels. She was a longtime member of Morning Star Baptist Church and she enjoyed cooking.

Survivors include her husband 51 years, Ernest Reed of Abilene her stepdaughter, Kerrie Collins of Cleveland, Ohio 6 sisters, Lisa Hayward, Jewell Bell Floyd, Alice Lyons Clarence, Pearl King Sherman, Dorothy Thomas, and Mary Jackson Henry one brother, Leroy Gray Emma her precious dog, Poo and a host of relatives and friends.

Her daughter, Georgiana Stevenson, a brother, Alvin Gray and two sisters, Earnest May Williams and Vera Lee Washington preceded her in death.
