Beryl Gladys Bea Griffin, 82, passed away Friday, December 23, 2011 in Abilene. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 27th in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South with entombment following in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation is from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Monday at Elmwood Funeral Home.
Bea was born in Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk England on February 7, 1929 to Sidney and Gladys Goymour. She came to the United States as a war bride in August of 1946, going first to Los Angeles, California where she lived for eight years. She met Chuck Griffin in Hollywood, California and they were married on June 11, 1955 in Las Vegas, Nevada. For the next twenty years they lived several different places, some overseas as Chuck served 26 years in the U.S. Air Force. They came to Dyess Air Force Base in 1973 and eventually made Abilene their permanent home. Bea was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and Transatlantic Brides and Parents Association.
Survivors include her children, Gale Ann Griffin Smith and husband Johnny of Chester, Virginia and Billy Charles Griffin of Abilene Stepchildren, Anita Marie Griffin Deppe of Shingle Town, California and Marjorie Ann Griffin Callaway of Redding California four grandchildren, Jason and Mark Smith, Devon Charles Griffin and Amanda Ann Griffin a sister, Coral Goymour Bird and husband Dennis of St. Edmunds, Suffolk, England and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Hospice of the Big Country and those at Home Instead especially Brandi and Moms wonderful caregivers, Manuela, Barbara, Ava and Debi and to Ingrid, Juan and Zelma, special friends and neighbors.
