Betty Lorie Foreman Brock, 79, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017 in Abilene. Funeral service is 3:00pm, Monday, May 15, 2017 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 1:30 till 3:00pm, preceding the service. Entombment will follow service at Elmwood Memorial Park's, Mausoleum III.
Betty was born in Coleman, TX on March 21, 1938 to Garland Smith and Florence (Harmes) Smith. After Garland's death serving his country in WWW II, Florence married Leonard B. Ray whom Betty knew as "Daddy". Betty graduated from Coleman High School then Business College and obtained her real estate broker's license, GRI and CRS in real estate. Betty worked in mortgage banking in Abilene and the Dallas/Ft. Worth area before returning back to Abilene to real estate sales. She worked for Senter, Realtors before opening her own company, The Betty Foreman Company, in 1988. Betty was awarded the Abilene Board of Realtor's Salesperson of the Year in 1987, and served on many real estate board of directors. She was active in her church, Pioneer Drive Baptist, and taught 4th grade Sunday school for many years. She served on the board of directors for March of Dimes, Abilene Community Theater, Alzheimer's Association, and Abilene Philharmonic.
Betty was an eternal optimist and loved people. Her warmth, laughter, smile and compassion filled any room.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard Brock; brother, Jerry Smith; step-sister, Glenda Perkins; and her niece, Becky Span.
Betty is survived by her son, Doug Wheatley and wife, Emma of Abilene, TX; daughter, Leslie Mitchell and husband, Scott of Aledo, TX; four grandchildren, Jack and Reagan Mitchell, Aimee Wheatley, Elizabeth Jowers; two great-grandchildren, Mason and Jayton Jowers; sisters, Norma Lutgen of Granbury, TX, Liz Rush and husband, Dave, of Coleman, TX, Debi Ray Moore of Abilene, TX; brothers, Bob Ray and wife, Marsha, of Coleman, TX., Danny Ray of Coleman, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
