Betty King

Betty J. King, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at the age of 83 after a long battle with cancer. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 15, 2016 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Betty was born in Dalhart, TX on August 1, 1933 to her parents, Frank and Viola Bieganoski. She attended school at Dalhart, Erick, OK, and Amarillo where she played both basketball and volleyball.

She was a member of Fairmount, and Southwest Drive U.M.C. where she sang in choir, decorated the church during the special holidays, seasons, and occasions. Later she became a member of the First UMC and The Gold Band Sunday school class. She attended and volunteered at Rose Park Senior Center for over twenty years where she also enjoyed decorating the show case for several years.

Betty met Leroy King on a blind date and after a lengthy courtship were married on May 5, 1951 in Shamrock, TX. They enjoyed life and raised a loving family together throughout sixty-five years of marriage. She and Leroy enjoyed square and round dancing for more than twenty years in the Amarillo and Abilene area.

Betty and her great friends, Myrle Goode Raley and Lawanda Lewis performed an Andrews Sister Act for 10 years in the Big Country area highlighted by an invitation and performance at the Texas State Capital.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Helen Richardson; and a niece, Elizabeth Mowbray; and her other mother, Anna King.

Survivors include husband, Leroy King; three children, Belinda King Dudley(Bob) of Amarillo, Texas, Jerry King(Joan) of Austin, TX and Diane King Lindell of Lubbock; four grandchildren, Cody Roberts(Jami), Drake Dudley(Diane), Austin Roberts(Dawn), and Coleman Dudley; four great-grandchildren, Leah Roberts, Lauren Roberts, Marshall Dudley, and Garrett Dudley; siblings, two sisters, Francis Field, and Bobbie Romack Cranford(Bud); one brother, Frank Ed Bieganoski(Martha); one sister-in-law, Oleta Willard; and several nieces, nephews, and numerous friends.

The family would like to give a special "Thank You" to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers of Big Country Hospice for the great care and support they provided during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial donation be made in Betty's honor to Meals on Wheels, 717 North 10th St., Abilene, TX 79601
