Betty Mcginnis received her wings July 16, 2018.
She was born September 10, 1934 in Philadelphia PA to Edward C and Louise Brown. She grew up and attended school in Philadelphia where she met Thomas E McGinnis. They married in March of 1956 and had 3 children. After living in Philadelphia for several years they moved to Texas where Tom started a career with the US Border Patrol. They made their home in Alpine for many years.
Betty graduated from San Angelo State University with a Bachelor of Science degree and worked as a nurse for Big Bend Memorial Hospital while her children completed their high school education. She then moved to the Abilene area and worked at Hendrick Medical Center for years caring for patients with cardiac related illnesses. She loved being a nurse and was a devoted and compassionate caregiver.
Betty's love was her family. She was extremely proud of her 3 children and loved them with every ounce of her being. Her 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren were the highlights of her life. There was no end to the means this special lady would go to help or spoil them. She attended every family outing, birthday party, sporting event, dance recital, modeling competition, graduation, wedding, and birth until her health prevented her from doing so. Joy and pride were always beaming on her face when she was around her kiddos.
Betty is survived by her 3 children. Matt and Susie McGinnis of Corsicana, Kathy McGinnis of Merkel, and Don and Sherri McGinnis of Alpine. Her 6 grandchildren, Kathy and Danny Olney of Hawley, Jennifer McGinnis of Corsicana, Amanda and Justin Agerton of Trent, Brian McGinnis and Haley of Midland, Wesley McGinnis of Corsicana, and Brittney and Mike Reynolds of Midland. She is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren, Jaycee, McKayla, Bryson, Gaven, CJ, Aubrey, Grayson, Landon and WhitLee. She is survived by sister Peggy Dunyon of Philadelphia and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter in law Emily McGinnis, brothers Edward and Walter Brown, and her 2 precious pups Buddy and Button.
A memorial inurnment ceremony will be held at the Serenity Columbarium at Elmwood Funeral Home August 4, 2018 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the ASCPA or Rescue the Animals charities.
