Betty Mae McLoughlin, 92, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2022, in Abilene, Texas. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 15, 2022, in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South
Betty was born December 17, 1929, in Big Sandy Texas to John and Lela Head. She graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1948, and on October 6, 1950, married her beloved husband of 66 years, Alvin McLoughlin. The couple lived in Corpus Christi until 1972 when Alvin was transferred to South Carolina. In 1974, Alvin was transferred to Abilene and the family made their home here.
Betty worked for the City of Abilene Tax Office for many years, retiring in 1990. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, a VP and Treasurer of the local AARP Chapter, and secretary of the Iris Club. She delivered for many years for Meals on Wheels and was an active volunteer for the RSVP program.
Betty was very creative and won 1st place for several years at the West Texas Fair and Rodeo for her scrapbooks. Above all, Betty loved Jesus and her family with her whole heart. She leaves behind a legacy of faith and love that will be carried on through generations to come.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, and her husband Alvin McLoughlin.
Betty Is survived by her sister, Bonnie Strickland of San Antonio, and three children, Brenda McLoughlin Balsano of Abilene, Texas, Terri McLoughlin Jones of Mary Esther, Florida, Jerry McLoughlin and his wife Necia of Desoto, Texas; three grandchildren, Jake McKewin of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Stephanie Jones of Mary Esther, Florida and Rachel Jones of Berkeley, California; and two great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Meals on Wheels in honor of Betty.
