Betty Scott

Betty Tyler Scott went to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, November 20, 2018.
Betty told her caregiver recently that she had talked to the Lord. As difficult as her leaving us was,
we were overjoyed and comforted that she had that conversation with Him, and they finalized plans
for her journey to her new home.
Betty was born on September 10, 1929, in Lelia Lake, Texas. She was the sixth, and last, child
born to J.A. Tyler and Dixie Tyler. Since her parents were older when she was born, she was
always their baby; the bond between the three was strong and loving. As a beautiful young lady,
Betty, met a handsome young man in Tuscola, Texas, named Dale Scott.
They were married on July 1, 1947 and had 71 years together as married couple. They have always
lived and worked in Abilene.
Betty worked in the insurance business as a young married woman. In addition to office work,
she sold insurance. In the 1960's the Scotts owned a coin-operated laundry in the Alameda
Addition on South 7th Street. Betty's last employment was at the Anderson, Clayton (ACCO)
laboratory where she worked as a lab technician for several years.
Betty was an excellent cook and loved to cook for her family and others. Her banana pudding
was "the best," and she made it often for Dale. Her Thanksgiving Southern Corn Bread Dressing
had been perfected long ago, and we looked forward to it every November.
Betty had a kind, a loving, and a generous heart. She enjoyed her family and was dedicated to
loving and caring for them. Throughout her life, she was blessed with many wonderful friendships.
And, if a stray animal was found in her neighborhood, she made sure God's four-legged creatures
received some TLC too.
Betty was a sweet person, a good friend to many, a loving wife to Dale, and the best mother in
the world to Jana Scott and Marianne Collins. We were blessed to have her as our mom and blessed to
have her on this Earth for over 89 years.
We wish to thank Mary Beth Slaughter, from the bottom of our hearts, for being Mother's
(24 hour) loving caregiver for the past four months. In addition, we are immensely grateful for
Hospice of the Big Country for giving Mom the blessing of comfort.
Betty is survived by her husband, Dale Scott; her two daughters, Jana Scott and Marianne Collins;
Sister-in -law, Bettye Tyler; nephew, Bob Tyler and wife, Lyn; niece, Linda Donahoo and husband
Nelson; nephew, Jimmy Tyler and wife, Jeannie; several other nieces and nephew, Sue Anne, Callie, and
Tracye Scott; and Mark Scott.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J.A. and Dixie Tyler. Her siblings: Richmond Tyler,
R.D. (Dock) Tyler, "Sis" Tyler, Madge Tyler, and J.C. (Fritz) Tyler; Sister-in-law, Geraldine Tyler; niece,
Dian Tyler Willis and husband, Wayne. Mother-in- law, Gracie (Montgomery) Scott Golden; brother-in-
law, Cal T. Scott, and wife, Billie; and, son-in-law, James F. Collins.

Mom, our hearts are heavy, and we will miss you. We know we will see you again.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 26, 2018 from 1:00 till 2:00 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home,
5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Monday, November 26, 2018 in the Elmwood
Funeral Home Chapel. A reception for family and friends will follow the service in the Elmwood Family
Center.
