Bret Burlock

September 19, 1959 — July 22, 2016

Bret Burlock, 56, passed away Friday, July 22, 2016. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Unity Church of Christianity, 2842 Barrow Street.

Bret was born September 19, 1959 in Houlton, Maine to Carl and Judy (Kinney) Burlock. He worked as a truck driver for a number of years, when a road trip took him to Massachusetts, where he met Elizabeth "Betty" Adams. The couple was married September 16, 1989 and shortly thereafter made their way to Texas, hauling her car with an oil-burning pickup that he bought from a farmer's field for $150.

Bret worked for Taylor County for six years as a heavy equipment operator and supervising the inmate work crew, and as a massage therapist for over 19 years. He loved to research things, and taught himself how to work on the Volvo vehicles that he and Betty drove. He was a tobacconist and made pipes.

Bret was thoughtful, kind, wise and well-respected. He never looked down on anyone and, if asked for his opinion, would "shoot straight from the hip".
He is survived by his wife, Betty; brothers and sisters, Carl Burlock and wife Danyel of Washburn, Maine; Peter Burlock and wife Carla of Mapleton, Maine; Fred Shaw of Biddeford, Maine; Pamela Shaw and Cathy Lowry, both of Lexington, Kentucky; brother-in-law, Bill Adams and wife Renee of Tye; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, two nephews and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bret will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
