Brian Cargile

December 19, 1960 — September 14, 2022

Brian Walker Cargile joyfully joined his Savior, many friends and family in heaven on Wednesday, September 14, 2022.

Funeral services will be held at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 11:00 am preceded by private burial at Elmwood Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday evening from 6-8 pm at 5750 Hwy 277 South.

Brian was born to Harold and Edna Merle (Cargile) Walker, on December 19, 1960, in Abilene, Texas, where he lived most of his life.  He was a graduate of Abilene High School.  He married Linda (Davis) Cargile, the love of his life June of 2000.  Brian pursued a career in information technology at Hardin-Simmons University for the past 35 years.  While he did a little of everything in Technology Services, his primary focus was supporting the campus network.  On March 22, 2022, Brian was surprised by Eric Bruntmyer, President of Hardin-Simmons University, and other staff with the announcement of the Brian Cargile Data Center (BC*DC), a new server space named in his honor.  Then in May of 2022, Brian was named Staff Member of the Year by his colleagues.  Brian was described as a quiet, selfless servant, working behind the scenes to support other people.  He was a professional beloved by the coworkers and contractors that get to work alongside him.  Brian loves the Lord and lived out Colossians 3:23: “Whatever work you do, do it with all your heart.  Do it for the Lord and not for men.”  He would never force anything on anyone, but was always mindful, tactful, and purposeful in every word that came from his mouth.  He offered great wisdom and insight on the work completed on campus, and he always offered a pearl of godly wisdom in all situations.  He never sought to be the focus of the moment, but his words were meaningful and reflective in a way that they lingered and caused one to think about what matters and who you are serving.  When not working, Brian enjoyed working with others on service projects in the community, with the JABEZ Sunday School class and Shining Star Fellowship Church.

Brian is survived by his wife, Linda, his brother Jim (Jerene) and his sister Elaine (Mike) along with numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by his parents, Harold, and Edna Merle.
