Buford Ronald "Ron" Carnes, 83, took his first breath in heaven on July 26, 2024, in Abilene, Texas.
Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday July 31st at Elmwood Funeral Home in Abilene, Texas with funeral services and burial immediately following at 11:00 a.m.
Ron was born in El Campo, Texas to Buford and Ruth Carnes on May 12, 1941. He graduated from Industrial High School in Vanderbilt, Texas. He met the love of his life, Glenda Jones, when he was a tenth grader, and she was a seventh grader. They married on December 22, 1962, in their hometown of Lolita, Texas. Ron graduated from Southwest Texas State College with both a bachelor's and a master's degree in education. He began his teaching career in Schertz, Texas and Martindale, Texas. He then became lower school principal at San Marcos Baptist Academy. Educating children in Biblical principles was one of his greatest joys. In 1976, he co-founded Hill Country Christian School in San Marcos, where he served as principal until 1988. Ron was actively involved in his local church and served in leadership and missions opportunities.
Ron's relationship with Jesus Christ guided everything he did. He loved studying God's Word and communing with Him in prayer. He also loved telling others about Jesus and the victory we have in Him. His greatest desire was to see Jesus face-to-face and to spend eternity in heaven.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents Buford and Ruth Carnes and 2 baby sisters.
Ron is survived by his loving wife Glenda of almost 62 years, his daughter Rhonda Swenson and husband John Eric Swenson, and grandsons John Eric Swenson IV and Jake Swenson.
The family of Ron Carnes wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the amazing medical team at Hendrick Hospital Critical Care Unit and Hendrick Hospice Care Center. We also thank Wylie Baptist Church of Abilene for their love and prayers during this time.
