Calvin Leonard Hickam Sr., 82, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2009 in Abilene. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 28th in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday at Elmwood Funeral Home.
Mr. Hickam was born on August 10, 1927 in Clarksville, Arkansas the son of Walter Hickam and Ethel Moses Hickam. He proudly served with the U.S. Navy Seabees during WWII on Truk Island and later married Ruby Jean Hickam on December 30, 1948 in Abilene. Calvin was a Master Carpenter for several years before he took an interest in the oilfield business. He worked 25 years for Curran-Kiel Drilling and several years for Sterns Drilling retiring as a Production Superintendent. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include one son, Leonard Hickam of Abilene; one sister, Sue Rister of Merkel; three brothers, Euell Hickam, Harvey Hickam, Manuel Hickam and wife Betty all of Abilene; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His parents, wife, two brothers, Walter Elbert Hickam and a sister, Ruth Ford preceded him in death.
