Carey "Rod" Andrew Tate, 39 passed away December 27, 2014 in Abilene. His funeral service with Cody Cochran officiating will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 19th at Bethel Assembly Church, 101 Commercial Avenue in Anson, Texas. Burial will follow at Double Mountain Cemetery in Aspermont. Visitation is from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South in Abilene.
Rod was born on November 11, 1975 in Abilene. He attended Abilene Christian Schools where he played soccer, football and baseball and graduated from Merkel High School in 1994 where he excelled in football. After graduation, Rod followed in the footsteps of his grandfather and father in the cattle industry helping with the family ranch and working at Haskell Livestock Auction. Rod loved trucks, tattoos, deep sea fishing and the ocean. Most of all, Rod had an infectious smile, was full of life and loved people. He never met a stranger and would go out of his way to make new friends.
Survivors include his parents, Gary and Kay Tate of Abilene; his sister, Christian Tate of Hawley; his children, Hayden Tate of Stephenville, Chase Tate and Katie Tate of Merkel and Meredith Tate of Abilene; his grandmother, Jo Tate of Aspermont; his nephew, Tanner Nichols of Hawley; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
His grandparents, AA Tate and Glen and Cora Mitchell; and his uncle, David Tate preceded him in death.
Pallbearers will be Rod Lewis, Clint Lackey, Chad Barr, Tripp Lethcoe, Bill Webb and Will (White Shoes) Walker.
Honorary pallbearers are Tanner Nichols, Tate and Tye Clark, AJ Benton, Randy Carson, Buzz Wylie and Van "Big Red" Owen.
In honor of Rods love for animals, memorial donations are requested to Rescue the Animals, 5933 South 1st, Abilene, Texas 79605.
