Carlos Rivera Reyes was born on January 30, 1944 in Eagle Pass Texas to Juan and San Juana Reyes. He passed away at the age of 80 on May 2, 2024 after a brief illness. He was the oldest of seven children. Carlos moved around with his family as a migrant worker and eventually settled in Abilene. He met the love of his life, Marilyn White, while attending the Graham Street Church of Christ where Marilyn was attending to practice her Spanish. Carlos and Marilyn were married June 27, 1969. Carlos' love for nature led him to start his own tree and landscaping business, which he owned and operated for 15 years. Carlos loved hunting, camping and gardening. His knowledge of horticulture was deep and he could make anything grow. He also had an incredible passion for people. His ability to meet people where they were in life, love unconditionally and give sacrificially were his greatest legacies. His compassion for others was exemplified in him being one of the most giving and generous people one could meet.
Carlos also had a love for studying scripture, leading singing at church and preached in several small rural congregations who did not have a preacher. His greatest source of pride was his family. He often accosted a stranger in line or at a restaurant to tell them about his children or grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a younger brother, Juan Reyes. He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Reyes, his son, Andrew Reyes (wife Sabrina), his daughter, Amy Pugh (husband Scott), and his daughter Annette Lerma (husband Luis), 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brothers Jesse Reyes, Cruz Reyes, Joe Reyes and his sisters Maria Brockman and Marina Trevino and numerous nieces and nephews.
As a follower of Jesus Christ, he was confident in his hope of eternal life in heaven and his greatest wish was for all of his family and friends to know Jesus and join him in heaven someday.
Pall bearers will be his granchildren, Philip Lerma, Ty Lerma, Matthew Moreno, Weston Lucus, Aaron Pugh, Daniel Pugh, and Lucas Pugh.
