Carol Lemen

Carol Stanley Lemen, aged 85, passed away on November 1, 2022, in Weatherford, TX.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at Elmwood Funeral Home Family Center, 5750 US HWY 277 S, Abilene, TX 79606. A graveside service will be held following the visitation at 11:00 AM at Elmwood Memorial Park.

Carol was born February 2, 1937, in Washington D.C. where she met her future husband, Thomas Joseph Lemen, a marine sergeant stationed at Quantico, Virginia. They married in Washington D.C. in January 1955, and immediately drove to Abilene, TX where their three children were born. Thomas earned his business degree at Hardin Simmons University. In 1963, Thomas was working at J.C. Penney and was transferred by Penney to San Angelo. In 1965, he was made manager of the Childress, Texas J.C. Penney store.

Carol became the organist for Holy Angels Catholic Church and the pianist/organist for the First United Methodist Church. In Childress, she was the first President of the Geological Society, and President of the Friends of the Library. She was a volunteer for the Childress General Hospital Auxiliary and the leader of the Junior Girl Scout Troop.

At the age of 37, she started attending Clarendon Junior College, then transferring to West Texas State University where she earned a Business Degree and then a Masters Degree in Business Education. She was employed by Odessa Junior College as an assistant professor where she taught business education for 15 years. After retirement, she and her husband traveled the U.S. working as vendors at Arts & Crafts shows selling gourmet food.

After being married for 53 years, Thomas died on December 16, 2009. Carol remained home bound except for occasional trips and cruises with family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Carol is survived by her daughter, Catherine Corr and her husband, Jeff; her sons Gilbert Wayne Lemen and Richard Allen Lemen; her grandson, Chad Lemen and wife, Jessica; her granddaughter Andrea Lemen and her husband, Hassan; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Walford Stanley, Jr, and parents, Walford Stanley Sr, and Lillian Hardy Stanley.
