Cathy Lou Cox, 69, of Abilene passed to a new cancer-free life while surrounded by her family on April 14, 2018 in Abilene after a long, valiant fight with cancer. She was a beloved daughter, sister and aunt.
Cathy was born in Breckenridge, Texas to Wesley and Ludell Cox on July 7, 1948. Cathy graduated from Cooper High School and received her Bachelor of Arts from McMurry University. Her most cherished possession was her family and she took tremendous pride in her nephew and nieces and all of their accomplishments.
Cathy was an avid sports fan. She loved her sports teams and would seldom miss watching a game if one of her teams were playing. She also enjoyed bowling in a league in Abilene for a number of years. She was kind, and giving and never spoke ill-will about or to anyone in her life. Because of this, she will be remembered as a rare gem.
Cathy was preceded in death by her father, Wesley Cox and brother, Joel Wesley Cox.
Cathy is survived by her greatest treasure, her mother, Ludell Cox; her sisters, Janet Cox Nuttall and Glenna Cox-Hamilton; nephew, Wesley Herode; nieces Christi Gesting and Gina Gesting, all of Abilene; also her niece Hayley Herode Harper and husband, Matt of Sweetwater, Texas; her great nieces and nephew, Matley Grace Harper, Georgia Faith Harper and Levi Joel Harper of Sweetwater and great nephew, Foxley Bennett Brown of Abilene.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff of Hospice of the Big Country. More particularly we would like to thank Christy Wyatt, Pam Parker and Connie Holladay, RN, for their heartfelt care of Cathy. We would also like to thank Pastor Jerry Vincent and Maryann Kelley for uplifting Cathy in her time of need.
There will be a private family burial and visitation will be in the home, 2517 Shoreline Drive, from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 P.M. to on Tuesday, April 17
