Cpl. Catlin Mackenzie May, 22, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2011 in Fort Stewart, Georgia where he was stationed with the U.S. Army. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 21, 2011 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South, Abilene with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday at Elmwood Funeral Home.
Catlin was born in Wichita Falls on March 25, 1988. He graduated in 2007 from Amarillo High School where he was a member of the football team. On July 27, 2007, Catlin became a soldier in the U.S. Army and had recently returned from his first tour in Iraq. He was a 13 Field ArtilleryForward Observer and was a member of the HHC27 Infantry 1st Brigade FSGA. His awards included two Army Accommodation Medals, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal and Global War on Terrorism Medal. While in the Army, he had won several awards in various Strong Man competitions.
Catlin loved life and he loved his family very much. He enjoyed all things outdoors including hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his mother, Steffanye Baxley of Abilene four sisters, Jamye Rogers of Abilene, Tiffanye Boydston and husband Greg of Allison, Tracye Joyner and husband Alex, and Lindye Dowden and husband Buddy all of Abilene one brother, Thomas May and wife Prisha of Merkel Grandparents, Rick and Linda Boyett of Weatherford two uncles, Eric Rowden of Vega, Texas and Austin Boyett of White Settlement one aunt, Laurye Stewart and husband Rob of Vega, Texas 5 nieces and 7 nephews.
