Gene Briley, 83, passed away November 20, 2014 in Abilene. Visitation will be 6:00 till 8:00 PM, Monday, November 24, 2014 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 25, 2014 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Cecil Eugene Briley was born August 25, 1931 in Lubbock, TX to parents, Carl Wayne and Lorena Ward Briley. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1948 and married Syl Williams in 1950. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage before her passing in 2011. He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone, where he retired after forty years of service.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist. His favorite pastime throughout the years was bowling. He could usually be found having a good time and visiting with friends at the bowling alley. Gene loved his children and grandchildren and always enjoyed spending time with them. Gene was a very honest and kind man that always made everyone feel loved and special.
He is survived by three children, Debra Briley, Mike Briley and wife Karen, and Pam Roe ten grandchildren twenty four greatgrandchildren and one soontobe great greatgrandchild and one brotherinlaw, Jim Williams.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Syl son, Terry two grandsons one brother, one sister and his parents.
