Celia Barrera

Celia Barrera, 69, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2008. A long-time resident of Abilene, Texas, she worked as a nurse at Professional Association for Pediatrics and Hendrick Medical Center for many years. Celia was married to Pete M. Barrera, Jr. for 34 years until his death in 1994. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

She is survived by her children Elijio Barrera, Martina Tina Galvan, Veronica Hernandez; grandchildren Sarah Galvan, Christopher Palomarez, Amanda Hernandez; and siblings Gregoria Moreno, Gregory Garcia, Esther Valdez, Carlos Garcia deceased, Francisco Garcia, Gloria Garcia, Virginia Herrera and Maria Garcia.

A rosary will be held at Elmwood Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 10 at 6:00pm, followed by visitation at 7:00pm. The funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, June 11 at 10:00am at Holy Family Catholic Church with Msgr. Benedict Zientek officiating.

We always find that those who walked closest to Christ were those who had to bear the greatest trials- St. Theresa of Avalon.
