Charles Chuck Warren Dorsey, 77, passed away May 3, 2012, at his home in Abilene. There will be a Memorial Service honoring him at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Burial with military honors will follow at The Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
Chuck was born to Mattie Mae Horner and John Lavell Dorsey on December 29, 1934, in the windy city of Chicago, IL. After he graduated from high school, he joined the United States Air Force. It was during this time that he met his loving wife, Gaynor Loyola Vernon. They were married on December 29, 1956. He had a fulfilling career, where he took part in the Vietnam War and later retired as MSgt. He loved spending time outdoors camping, gardening, and cooking out. He was known as the BBQ King, and the joy and laughter he brought to every gathering will be greatly missed. He also enjoyed watching sports, telling jokes, and listening to Jazz music. Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints Psalm 116:15.
He is survived by his wife, Gaynor his children Debra Sherwood and husband Robert of Abilene, TX, Henry Dorsey and wife Julie of Abilene, TX, Elana Dorsey of Abilene, TX Maria Peppers and husband Gregory of Melissa, TX, Steven Dorsey and wife Marla of Fullerton, CA 10 grandchildren Corey Dorsey, Kyle Dorsey, LaToya Taylor, Jonathan Peppers, Mikaela Peppers, Anthony Dorsey, Sarah Dorsey, Mitchell Dorsey, Spencer Dorsey, Cheyenne Sherwood 2 great grandchildren Kenneth Taylor and Cason Dorsey 3 sisters Rebecca Turner of Chicago, IL, Anita Seaberry of Chicago, IL, Martha Boles of University Park, IL also numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and 3 sisters Jean Sewell, Alma Thibodeaux, and Joan Rhodes.
