Clara Jane Matlock Kelley, 87, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2008 in Abilene, TX after an extended illness. She was a resident of Windcrest Alzheimers Care Center since June 2004.

Clara Jane Matlock Kelley, 87, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2008 in Abilene, TX after an extended illness. She was a resident of Windcrest Alzheimers Care Center since June 2004.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2008 at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy. 277 South with Chaplain Chris Allen and Chaplain Roz Thomas officiating. Interment will be in Eldorado City Cemetery, Eldorado, OK at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 8, 2008.

Clara was born on May 5, 1920 to John and Maude Matlock. She was raised on the family farm with nine sisters and brothers between Apache and Anadarko, OK. Following the death of her husband Calvin Kelley, who was killed in World War II, she graduated from Southwestern State University in Weatherford, OK. She obtained a Masters Degree in Consumer Sciences in 1958 from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. She has worked as a Extension Home Economist in Comanche County, OK in 1949, Carter County in 1970 and Oklahoma County in 1972 until she retired in 1982.

Mrs. Kelley was an active member of Meridian Ave. Baptist Church, Oklahoma City, OK prior to her illness where she organized the library and taught an adult Sunday School Class. She was active in several volunteer agencies in Oklahoma County such as AARP and the National Association of Mature People. In 1972 she appeared in Personalities of the South Whos Who and received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of Extension Home Economists.

She is survived by son, Ron Kelley and wife, Dirindia of Clyde; three grandchildren, Hope Willingham and husband, James, Chris Kelley and Sarah Womble and husband, Sam; three sisters, Minnie Kirklen and Jackie Fredrickson of Lawton, OK, and Alma Fette of Georgia; two brothers, Don Matlock and Leroy Matlock of Anadarko, OK; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
