Clemencia Mendez

Clemencia Arevalo Mendez, 79, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 29, 2024. A visitation will be Tuesday, September 3, 2024 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM with a Rosary beginning at 6:00 PM in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South. A funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, September 4, 2024, in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel.

She was born on October 21, 1944, in Sonora, Texas, to Simon and Mariana Arevalo. Clemencia met the love of her life, Santiago Mendez, and together they shared 50 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 2013. Their bond was a testament to enduring love and companionship.

She was a spirited woman who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Clemencia loved playing Bingo, scratching off lottery tickets, cheering on her beloved Dallas Cowboys, and watching old Westerns. However, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, whom she cherished deeply.

Clemencia was a devoted member of Saint Francis Catholic Church in Abilene, Texas, where she attended for several years. Her faith was an important part of her life, guiding her through both joyful and challenging times.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth that will be remembered by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Santiago Mendez; Parents, Simon and Marianna Arevalo; and her sister, Betha Perez.

Clemencia is survived by her children, Jimmy Mendez(Andrea), Elsa Merket(Adam), Delma Reyna(Joe), Joann Aldrete, Jaime Mendez(Nellie), Jennifer Guevara (David), and Jessica Mendez; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two siblings, Hortencia Salinas, and Mariana Torres(Lupe); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Clemencia will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. May she rest in peace, reunited with her beloved Santiago.
