Andy was born May 28, 1929 in Breckenridge, Texas. After serving his country in the U.S. Army, Andy settled in Abilene in 1957 where he married Ollie Dee Windham at Corinth Baptist Church which later became Faith Baptist. As their Faith grew in this church home, God blessed him with a family he adored and with a passion for working with automobiles.
Anyone who knew Andy recognized his love of cars as he raced them, built them, and restored them. In his early years, Andy spent many Saturdays at the SpeedArena of Abilene where he raced the 55 car. In 1962, he was the stockcar champion. While racing, he began his own business, Andys Automotive Service in 1961 and was a member of the Automotive Service Assoc. and the Texas Independent Auto Assoc. He was an active participant with the Big Country Early Ford V8 Club, where he shared his love with many of his closest friends.
As business grew he had less time to race and chose to devote his energy toward sharing his knowledge and expertise in mechanics with his family, friends and the community of Abilene.
He also donated his time to the community by serving on the Board of Directors for the Better Business Bureau and for Faith Christian Schools. Additionally, he was a member of the Kiwanis Club of South Abilene as acting president of the Health Committee providing eyeglasses for underprivileged children.
