Colonel Robert Bob S. Martin USAF Retired, 80, of Abilene, passed away Saturday, November 1, 2014 in Abilene.

A funeral service will be held Thursday November, 6 at 2 PM at the Wylie United Methodist Church with Jeff Hatcher officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. A visitation with the family will be on Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home.

Bob was born on September 28, 1934 in Abilene, TX to the late R.D. and Averil Scott Martin. He was a graduate of Abilene High and attended McMurry College while serving in the Texas Army National Guard. His family owned McMurry Drug store where Bob was a pharmacist before entering into full time military service. On April 29, 1955 was one of the most important days of Bobs life. He earned his pilots wings, commission in the U.S. Air Force and married his true love, Sandra Shields in Phoenix, AZ on that day. He was a proud father of 4 children, Donna, David, Daniel and Daon. Bob spent his military career serving as an instructor pilot, aircraft commander, standardization chief, deputy commander for operations and group commander. Colonel Martin retired as a command pilot with more than 7,000 hours supporting training, weather reconnaissance, rescue and airlift missions. He was a member of Wylie United Methodist Church, a Gideon, a member of the Jaycees and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Daedalians.

Bob is survived by his wife, Sandra Martin Donna Folen and husband Len of FL. David Martin and wife Kristi of Flower Mound, TX Daniel Martin and wife Jill of Austin, TX, and Daon Johnson and husband Randy of Alabama grandchildren, Scott Martin, Jessica Martin, Ashley Martin, Austin Martin and Sierra Johnson brother, Larry Martin and wife Pat of Abilene, TX numerous cousins.

In lieu of flowers family request donations may be made to Wylie United Methodist Church and The Gideons International www.gideons.org.
