Cynthia Russell Baughn, 60, died Wednesday, July 22, 2009 in Fredericksburg. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 5410 Buffalo Gap Rd with burial following at 4:00 PM in the Liberty Hill Cemetery in Liberty Hill. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, July 27th with Rosary beginning at 7:00 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South.
Cynthia was born on December 15, 1948 in Austin the daughter of Kathryn Humphries Russell and Eugene Frances Russell. She graduated from Tarleton State University and taught school for a short time before becoming a full time homemaker devoted to the loving care of her family. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Cynthias family was the joy of her life. In 1996, she was inspired by her son Kerry Patrick Baughn, who was born with medical needs, to establish The House That Kerry Built, a facility that even today is serving medically fragile children and their families in Abilene and the surrounding area. The House That Kerry Built was eventually approved as a statewide pilot program and included several components, including, case management, a parent mentor program, support services for both siblings and parents, respite program, resource library, medically-supervised day care, and access to pediatric home nursing.
Cynthia leaves a legacy of faith, love and family.
Survivors include two sons, Deven Matthew Baughn and wife Valerie of Fredericksburg and Christopher Daniel Baughn and wife Carrie of Stephenville; her daughter, Michella Baugh Melton and husband Mark of McKinney; five grandchildren, Caylan, Ruby, Curtiss, Hank and Caroline; two brothers, Kerry Russell and wife Lee and Phillip Russell and wife Sandy all of Georgetown; two sisters, Paula Matchen and husband Monroe of Sweetwater and Denis Fisch and husband Matt of Cedar Park; Godchildren, Korryn Russell, Kathryn Fisch Posey, Desire Matchen Wright and Amber Matchen Dolle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her parents, son, Kerry Patrick Baughn and niece Regina Russell preceded her in death.
