Daisy Fay Childers: AKA “Granny Cakes”
Daisy Fay Childers of Abilene, Texas passed away on Friday, January 15th, 2021 at the age of 81. Daisy was born on March 9th, 1939 to her parents Pierson and Margaret Hollingsworth in Lelia Lake, Texas. She was one of twelve children, Daisy was proceeded in death by her parents, her sisters: Opal, Blondell, Joyce, Eulevene, LueNell and her brother Alton and grandson Jason.
Daisy started dating the love of her life Billy Evan Childers in Seagraves, Texas on her birthday March 9th, 1957. After one month of dating, they married on Billy’s birthday April 15th, 1957. They enjoyed 63 years and 10 months of marriage together.
Daisy was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. The things she loved to do the most was bake and play games. Her specialty was baking wedding cakes and birthday cakes for all her family and friends. She was nicknamed Granny Cakes for a reason. She loved cooking for her family which guaranteed games to follow soon after. She loved to play dominos and Wahoo. She also loved playing Pokeno and words with friends. She was easy to get to know and hard to say no to. Daisy loved Jesus and her church family at Lytle South Baptist Church where she was a member for many years.
Daisy is survived by her husband, Billy Evan Childers and her three daughters Karen Cox, Pam Warren and her husband Steve, Lucy Kirk and her husband Randy. Her grandchildren Jennifer Chittum and her husband Casey, Amy McCulloch, Jamie Carter and her husband Austin, Amanda Stevens, Ashley Cutbirth and her husband Edward, Cody Brewster, Lance Stribling, Daisy Bergeron, Sherie Canada, Cassie Jones and her husband Bobby, nineteen great grandchildren, three sisters; Pearl, Dorothy, and Molly; two brothers Alvin and Cecil. Many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, which she loved dearly.
She will be deeply missed by everyone.
Visitation will be held Tuesday January 19th, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South Abilene, Texas.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday January 20th, 2021 at Lytle South Baptist Church 1125 E. Industrial Blvd. Abilene, Texas. Graveside services to follow at Elmwood Cemetery
Pallbearers: Casey Chittum, Scotty Bergeron, Walter Kemp, Edward Cutbirth, Lance Stribling, and Mark Reed
