Dan Symonds, 53, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 in Abilene. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 28th at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 7457 West Lake Road. Visitation is from Noon until 1:20 PM the day of the service at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South.
Dan was born on November 15, 1959 in Wilmington, Delaware where he grew up and attended school. He joined the U.S. Air Force at the age of 17 and faithfully served his country for 18 years. While stationed in Spain, he met Maria Carmen Rodriquez and they were married on January 31, 1981. Dan had worked for Bookstore Manager in Abilene since 1997. He enjoyed everything about the outdoors and was an avid and knowledgeable birder and active member and past President of the Big Country Audubon Society. Dan was a passionate and proud American who always pursued ways to make the community a better place.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Maria of Abilene his sons, Daniel Symonds and wife Brittany of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Jereme Symonds of Abilene one grandson, Karson Symonds his mother, Catherine Pierce Symonds of Greencastle, Pennsylvania five sisters, Regina Brinton, Michelle Kenney, Dawn Symonds, Theresa Symonds and Cathleen Dunkelberger two brothers, Mark Symonds and Noel Symonds his motherinlaw, Esperanza Hontalla and fatherinlaw, Luis Rodriguez both of Spain and numerous nieces and nephews.
His father, David Symonds preceded him in death.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Friends of Abilene State Park, 150 Park Rd 32, Tuscola, TX 79562.
