Darwin Springstead

Darwin E. Springstead, 81, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2018 in Abilene. A funeral service will be held Monday, December 31, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 7457 W. Lake Rd, Abilene, TX 79601.

Darwin was born February 24, 1937 to Elsworth and Edna Springstead in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He joined the Air Force on May 18, 1959 in Detroit Michigan and retired June 1, 1985 at Carswell AFB in Fort Worth, Texas. Darwin met and married the love of his life, Yoko Otsu, on May 24, 1962 in Fukuoka, Japan. He was a very simple man that liked baseball, bowling and fishing. Above all Darwin loved his family with every ounce of his heart. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Elsworth and Edna Springstead; and his sister, Georgia Sumerix.

Darwin is survived by his wife, Yoko Springstead of Abilene, Texas; three sons, Douglas Springstead of Abilene, Donald Springstead and wife Pamela Springstead of San Antonio, Texas, and Dale Springstead of Abilene, Texas; grandchildren, Jacob Springstead of Wichita Falls, Texas, Jordan Springstead of San Antonio, Texas, and Cassie Bautista of Abilene, Texas; and three great grandchildren, Colby Springstead of Wichita Falls, Texas, Payton Springstead of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Noah Bautista of Abilene, Texas.
