David Bates

David Anthony Bates, 73, passed away, Saturday, February 28, 2009 in Abilene. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 2, 2009 at the Broadview Baptist Church with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, today, Sunday, March 1 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South.

David was born in Houston, Texas on July 12, 1935. Between his fathers career in the Army and his own 21 years in the U.S. Air Force, he has lived in many places throughout his life. He married Audrey Jore on January 16, 1960 in Houston, Minnesota and they have cherished each other for 49 years. After retirement from the Air Force, David drove for various charter bus companies for the next 32 years. He loved kids, so he especially enjoyed driving when it involved taking the HSU band or sports teams to competitions. He loved watching John Wayne movies and reading Tom Clancy novels. He was a member of the Broadview Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey of Abilene; his daughter, Ann Reid and husband Steve of Cahoma; three grandchildren, Britton D. Bates, Tiffany Nichole Reid, and Michael Chase Reid. His son, David Scott Bates preceded him in death.
