David Leon Floyd, 85, died Tuesday, January 5, 2016 in Abilene. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, January 8, 2016 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Southwest Drive Community United Methodist Church officiated by Reverend Iziar Lankford. Interment will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.
David was born January 16, 1930 in Merkel, Texas to David Matthew and Pinkie Milligan Floyd. He was a Master Sergeant in the United States Army, stationed at Ft. Hood from January 26, 1951 until October 29, 1952. He married Laverne Kerr on July 2, 1954 in Abilene. He worked for Dean Hagler for 30 years and was a lifetime member of VFW Post 2012. He was a member of Southwest Drive Community United Methodist Church, the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades and a proud member of the Merkel Badgers Football Hall of Fame.
David is survived by his daughter, Mary Faulks and husband Herluth of Crowley; grandchildren Russell Faulks and wife Lisa of White Settlement and Stephen Faulks and wife Kimberly of Burleson; four great-grandchildren, Kayla Williams and husband Hutch of Burleson, Tyler Faulks of Burleson, Carrie Gross and husband Bruno of Denton, and Samantha Faulks of White Settlement; and one sister, Eulala Brown of Lubbock.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Laverne; his parents; one brother, Jimmy Floyd; sister-in-law Elizabeth Kerr; and brother-in-law G.W. Brown.
