David Simoes, born on April 28, 1958, in Miami, Florida (Homestead AFB), passed away on June 24, 2023, surrounded by his loving children and grandchildren. In his final weeks, David found solace and joy in the company of his family, cherishing every moment, including a heartfelt Father's Day celebration with a special seafood meal prepared by his children.
David was the beloved son of Manuel Simoes and Rene Bettini. He spent his formative years in Tiverton, Rhode Island, where he attended high school before embarking on a remarkable journey of service to his country. After graduating, David joined the U.S. Air Force as a jet engine mechanic, dedicating 24 years of his life to honorable service.
Throughout his distinguished military career, David served at various duty stations, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. His assignments included Homestead A.F.B. in Miami, Florida, Peace A.F.B. in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, MacDill A.F.B. in Tampa, Florida, Osan AB in South Korea, and Dyess A.F.B. in Abilene, Texas.
David retired from the Air Force with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant (E8), earning numerous accolades and commendations for his dedication, leadership, and technical expertise. His commitment to duty and unwavering loyalty to his country inspired all who served alongside him.
Beyond his military service, David was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend. He will be remembered for his warm smile, kind heart, and unwavering love for his family. David legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched and the memories he created.
David is survived by his children, Christopher Simoes and wife Valerie, Cameron Simoes and wife Christine, Matthew Fiveash, and Rylee Fiveash; nine grandchildren, Angelo, Gabriella, Sophia, Micaela, Lucca, Chase, Emma, Carmela, and Maya.
A memorial service to celebrate David's life and honor his memory will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South in Abilene, Texas at 12:30 PM. Inurnment will begin at 2:00 PM in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
David Simoes will be deeply missed but never forgotten, as his spirit continues to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace.
