Debra Vernon

Debra Kay Vernon, 59, of Abilene, passed away Saturday May 20, 2017. Graveside service will be 2:00 PM Monday May 22, 2017 at the Tuscola Cemetery.

Debra graduated May, 1976 from Big Spring High School and she completed a few courses at Howard College in Big Spring. She retired from Big Spring State Hospital in May of 2013 after 22 years. One of her favorite jobs was working in the church nursery on Sundays and Wednesdays for four years. She lived in Abilene and Big Spring for many years. Accomplishments included Relay for Life Committee from 2004 - 2013 and was on the Relay team at Big Spring State Hospital from 2002 to 2013. The Relay for Life raises money for cancer research.

She is preceded in death by her father, Thomas Roy Vernon; grandparents, King C. and Florence Roberson, and Roy A. and Norene Vernon; and her uncle, Robert Vernon.

She is survived by her mom, Peggy Roberson Vernon; her brother, Charles Vernon and wife Amanda; her nephew, Roy Vernon and wife Tate; two great nephews, Hudson and Hayden Vernon; and an uncle and aunt, Ronnie and Rita Roberson.
