Deverise "Dev" Ohre of Abilene went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, July 29, 2017. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 2, at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. The funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 3, at 10:30 a.m. at Wylie Methodist Church, 3430 Antilley Road with Jeff Hatcher officiating. Private entombment to follow funeral service at Elmwood Memorial Park.
Dev was born in Portales, New Mexico to Bud Crouch and Mohee Barnes on February 8, 1950. She married Eddie Ohre on December 31, 1987 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She received a BSN from McMurry University and then worked in home health, was a charge nurse at Abilene Regional, a Hospice nurse, and, in the last ten years before retiring, was the director of Hospice of the Big Country. After retiring, Dev remained on the Board of Hospice for Texas and New Mexico. Dev's passion for her job was evident in the time, energy, and love she poured into her coworkers and patients.
Dev sang on the praise team, taught Sunday School, played the piano, was an accomplished seamstress, and decorator. Dev loved to travel and was always ready for a new adventure. After retirement, she discovered a love and natural talent for painting that blessed many people. Dev was known for her generous spirit and her kindness by all who knew her. She devoted care and compassion to her family, friends, and to her community, joyfully exemplifying the love of Christ.
Dev is survived by her husband, Eddie Ohre; her children, Melissa (Steve) Doan, Tanya (Brian) Zeigler, Darrel Brown, Amanda (Patrick) Licon; her stepson, David Ohre; fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
We would like to thank the nursing staff and doctors at Hendrick Hospital, Abilene Regional, and Hospice of the Big Country for their wonderful care during Dev's final days. Per Dev's request, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of the Big Country.
